Event Details

The Islamic Art of Illumination (Tezhip) is a traditional art that uses earth-based paints and gold to adorn Qur’anic verses, manuscripts, and buildings, such as palaces and mosques. What are the traditional techniques used to create these intricate designs, and how does it relate to Islamic spirituality? Join us to learn more about these techniques, motifs, and geometrical designs, and the relationship between Tezhip and the essence of Islamic teachings. Dina will also share her personal experience as a student of the Süheyl Ünver Nakışhanesi in Istanbul.

Dina Rehab is a student of the Süheyl Ünver Nakışhanesi in Istanbul. She is founder of the Delgammon Handcrafted Collection, a platform for artists to showcase historical art reproductions and teach workshops on traditional techniques. She is currently pursuing a dual MA degree at the University of Chicago’s Center for Middle Eastern Studies and Divinity School.
