Program Description

Event Details

The 1990s were a time of alternative media, multiculturalism, and alternative thinking. Through MTV and VH1, music videos were very popular featuring singers like Mariah Carey and Puff Daddy, and popular boy bands like New Kids On The Block, Backstreet Boys, and more. At weddings and school dances, everyone was doing the Macarena, and children and adults alike collected Beanie Babies. Viewers were Saved by the Bell and made sure to be surrounded by Friends. Audiences’ hearts would go on with the sinking of the Titanic and the rise of Celine Dion’s famous hit.

Historians Jim and Michelle Gibbons will also discuss the Gulf War, the dissolution of the Soviet Union, the possible impeachment of President Bill Clinton, and the tragic death of much-loved Princess Diana.
