Parking Information: Due to the large number of registrants, there is a slight possibility that the Library's parking lots will be full for this event. Our neighbors at The Garlands of Barrington have graciously allowed us to offer parking at their site as well. This is limited to two parking lots: Parking on The Square, which is near the main Garlands entrance, and Event Parking, which is near the Garlands service entrance. Please do not park on Garlands Lane. See a map of parking at the Garlands.
Presenter Dr. David Faris provides historical background information and a timeline of events that give context to the long-standing conflict in Israel-Palestine and help attendees to grow in their understanding of it. This reflects the Library’s mission to be a trusted, neutral, safe space for civic discourse and the exchange of ideas. The Library recognizes that this program will contain sensitive subject matter and that attendees may have strong and vastly different opinions about it.
All attendees must adhere to the Library’s Customer Code of Conduct, by which “all customers and staff should be free from any threat of harm, invasion of property, invasion of privacy, or gross indignity.” The Customer Code of Conduct requires Library customers to respect the right of other customers and staff, including the program presenter, to experience a safe and healthy environment while on District property. Conduct such as harassing, threatening, or disturbing others, verbally or physically, will not be permitted.
About the presenter: David Faris is an Associate Professor of Political Science at Roosevelt University and the author of three books, including Dissent and Revolution in a Digital Age: Social Media, Blogging and Activism in Egypt. His academic work has appeared in Middle East Policy, Arab Media & Society, and the International Journal of Middle East Studies.
